These are pink, scaly splotches that appear on the skin as a result of cumulative sun exposure. Though they occur more frequently in fair-skinned individuals, nobody is exempt from developing them. Actinic keratoses are called “pre-cancerous” because, if left untreated for long periods of time, there is a risk that these can develop into squamous cell carcinoma of the skin.
