Jeuveau is an injectable treatment that was recently approved by the FDA for reducing the appearance of dynamic facial wrinkles. As an alternative to Botox®, it is sometimes referred to as “Newtox” and offers you another choice to achieve the results you want. Jeuveau is now available at Gendler Dermatology to improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows, known as ‘11s’, or glabellar lines, and rejuvenate your facial appearance.

Dr. Gendler is renowned for her expertise in cosmetic dermatology and is highly skilled with facial injectables, including Jeuveau, Botox, and soft tissue fillers. She is a leading cosmetic dermatologist, having served as a consultant to cosmetic and pharmaceutical companies.

What is jeuveau?

Jeuveau, similar to Botox, is a prescription medication containing a form of botulinum toxin called prabotulinumtoxinA.  This blocks nerve signals to prevent muscles from contracting and forming wrinkles. Jeuveau has a safety profile similar to Botox and is equally as effective as a wrinkle relaxer.

What is jeuveau used for?

Jeuveau is used for reducing forehead lines between the eyebrows, called glabellar or frown lines. It also prevents wrinkles from forming, making a permanent crease in the face.

Who is the ideal candidate for jeuveau?

Jeuveau is a treatment option for anyone with moderate to severe frown lines. However, it may not be suitable for you if:

  • You are pregnant.
  • You are breastfeeding.
  • You are under 18 years of age.
  • You take certain medications for muscle spasms.
  • You are allergic to Jeuveau, any of its ingredients or you have had a reaction to other botulinum toxin injections, such as Botox, Dysport®, or Xeomin®.
  • You have a skin infection at the site where injections will be administered.

What to expect during the procedure

The face is cleansed to remove all traces of make-up and cosmetics. Next, the product is injected in small amounts into the muscles causing the frown lines.

The treatment should take around 15 minutes. As there is no downtime, you can resume most of your everyday activities right away. However, we recommend avoiding strenuous exercise for a few hours, and facials for 24 hours.

Are all “Wrinkle Relaxers” the same?

All wrinkle relaxers temporarily improve the appearance of wrinkles and are derived from different variants of the same neurotoxin. Choosing one toxin over another is a decision for your physician and you to make.  Furthermore, different formulations can be used in combination so if you have already used one brand of neurotoxin, there is no problem if you decide to try another.

What are the side-effects following jeuveau injections?

The side effects from Jeuveau injections are mild and typically occur around the injection site. Most of them will fade within a couple of hours, but some might last for a few days. They include:

  • Redness
  • Swelling
  • Bruising
  • Itching
  • Headaches
